Mental Health and COVID

The COVID-19 pandemic has quickly become a global health emergency with far reaching consequences for the physical and mental health of millions of people around the world.

Our latest downloadable guide explains the importance of self-care and how the Five Steps to Wellbeing can help you to stay well, keep motivated and feel in control.

Even if we have not personally suffered with COVID-19, lockdown has left many of us struggling to different degrees with the threat of infection, loss of freedom, loss of livelihood and anxiety.

At Healix Health Services we know that easy access to advice and treatment is crucial for our members and their families to make sure the right help is given at the right time.

Almost one in five adults have experienced some form of depression during the coronavirus pandemic (ONS, June 2020). This is almost double the numbers before the pandemic. Those adults who are female, young, disabled or unable to afford an unexpected expense were most likely to be affected. We also know that although men feel more able to seek help for their mental health than a decade ago they also feel more worried and low in mood and are twice as likely to feel suicidal (Mind, 2020).

Mental ill health affects individuals and their loved ones and results in lost productivity in the workplace. Wellness strategies need to evolve to meet the challenges of the current situation creatively. Employers need to ensure that they promote good mental health in the workplace and that the workforce has timely access to mental health support.
